Back in the city that feels like my second home. Istanbul welcomed me the night before last and for the first time coming to buy carpets and textiles I was able to purchase a entry Visa online. Countless times I have stood in a line-up (before the BIG lineup to clear Passport Control) waiting to purchase a visitor’s visa. In the past as I wait in the Visa line, the passport control line continues to lengthen and after what is close to twenty hours from my home in Calgary to this lineup in Istanbul I always feel a knot of impatience growing. I am ‘like a horse smelling the barn’ wanting to be beyond the confines of Ataturk Airport and onto highways and ferries that will take me to my destination on the Asian side of this sprawling city.
So for any of you planning on visiting Istanbul take the time to buy your Visa online. The cost for Canadians is 60 USD and for Americans it is 20 USD. The difference in fee (from my understanding) reflects a reciprocal fee of what Visas cost for Turks visiting Canada and the US. Turkey e-Visa Website
Here are some images of Istanbul, the city that continues to both entice and entrance me. Who can explain a love and a passion for a location? I was smitten years ago and remain under the spell of this city.
